Vintage & terroir: Grumello “SO” is produced in the municipality of Sondrio at 450–500 metres of altitude, in the heart of the Grumello subzone. The south-facing vineyards stand on sandy soils derived from the decomposition of granite rock—poor, well-drained soils ideal for an elegant, mineral-driven Nebbiolo. Average yield is about 50 quintals per hectare. Guyot training system. Harvest takes place in mid-October, exclusively by hand. Grape variety: 100% Nebbiolo (Chiavennasca). Winemaking: De-stemming and gentle crushing immediately after harvest. About 15 days of maceration in stainless-steel tanks with double daily pump-overs. Spontaneous malolactic fermentation. Native yeasts only, to preserve the wine’s territorial identity. Ageing: 20 months in large 20-hl oak casks, followed by 6 months bottle refinement. Limited production Appearance: Classic garnet colour with ruby highlights. Nose: Rich and engaging aromatic profile: violet, rose, black pepper, red berry jam, light mineral nuances and subtle balsamic tones. Elegant and precise. Palate: Vigorous yet refined. Firm, well-integrated tannins, lively freshness and excellent balance. Long, mineral and persistent finish. A wine with remarkable ageing potential and growing complexity over time.
